Chunky Applesauce
April 21, 2022
Easy to make and versatile. The sweetness depends on the type of apple you choose. Sweeter apples like Honey Crisp or Golden Delicious will require less sweetener after the
apples are cooked. Tarter apples like Empire or Cortland will require more. Mclntosh apples will puree more easily and give you smoother applesauce. Enjoy this applesauce
over plain yogurt for breakfast or as a side dish with pork chops or roast.
Ingredients
- 6-8 large sweet apples, like Honey Crisp, Golden Delicious or Macintosh
- 1/4 cup water
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup or to taste
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon or to taste
Directions:
Peel and core apples and cut into 1-inch chunks.
Microwave: Place apples and water in a microwave dish. Cover and cook at high power for 5 minutes. Remove the dish from the microwave, stir and check apples for doneness. Cook another 3 4 minutes if desired.
Stovetop: Place the apples and water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat then reduce the heat to low. Simmer until the apples are tender, about 20 minutes.
Lightly mash apples with a potato masher. Add sweetener and cinnamon to taste.
