Taking food Preparation to the next level
1. Have dedicated cutting boards for meat, poultry, and fish. This helps prevent cross-contamination of food.
2. Never wash or rinse poultry in the sink. The only way to kill bacteria is to cook food thoroughly. Rinsing only contaminates your sink area.
3. To ensure food is properly cooked invest in an instant-read food thermometer. You can purchase them at most stores, and they are inexpensive.
4. When adding dried herbs, add them when you are sautéing to release the most flavour possible to the dish. When adding fresh herbs, wait until just before serving your dish.
5. Taste food before adding seasoning, such as salt. If your food still “needs something” consider adding an acid, such as lemon juice or a mild vinegar, like apple cider. It will give your dish a lift without the need for additional salt.
