About the Event

Theland Kicknosway is a young Indigenous activist from Walpole Island First Nation, Bkwejwanong Territory. He is a traditional singer, drummer, grass and hoop dancer, and an active member of Families of Sisters in Spirit, which supports First Nation, Inuit, and Métis families impacted by missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. Theland’s advocacy for Indigenous communities began when he was in third grade, and he wrote a letter to his school to celebrate the annual powwow. Theland was the youngest Indspire Laureate named for Culture, Heritage and Spirituality in 2018.
He has gained a significant following on TikTok, where he is known as @the_land. Theland’s annual Run/Bike for MMIWG2S raises awareness about violence and injustice towards Indigenous people. He has also taught over 1,500 people about Indigenous youth in Canada at KAIROS and offers teachings to LGBTQ2S youth at the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity.

This event will be hosted by Crystal Bomberry.
